IMA Urgent Care & Primary Care Asks Community to “Roll-Up” Sleeves and Donate Blood

Holmdel, NJ  – IMA Urgent Care is hosting a blood drive with New Jersey Blood Center and The Villas in Holmdel on Monday, October 17th from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Villas in Holmdel.

“The need for blood donations is at a critical point and we are asking our patients, staff, and the community to roll up their sleeves and consider donating a pint of blood.  Each pint of blood can help save up to 3 lives,” states IMA’s President, Dr. Roger Thompson.

The entire process takes less than an hour, and a single donation can be used to save multiple lives. Donors with O-negative blood type, or “universal donors,” are encouraged to attend, as their blood can be transfused into anyone in a trauma situation.

Nearly 2,000 donations are needed each day in New York and New Jersey alone. About one in seven hospital admissions requires a blood transfusion. With a limited shelf life, supplies must be continually replenished.

“Donating blood is an important and easy community service.  Patients’ lives are saved by the volunteers who take an hour of their time to donate blood.  Cancer patients, accident victims, surgery patients, and many others benefit from the generosity of blood donors.  And of course, their families and loved ones are also helped. Most people between the ages of 16 and 76 can qualify to donate. (Donors 76 or over can donate with a doctor’s note).  We are grateful for the help of IMA Urgent Care and Villas for hosting this blood drive,” states NJ Blood Services’ Lynne Ross.
